How I Balance Work, School, and Not Burning Out

Hey everyone, it’s Riley, and welcome back to the blog! Happy 2026!! This year is in full swing already.

This semester is already off to a great start. Balancing work and school are something I’m still figuring out especially now that I’m getting close to graduating college. Knowing I’m in this final stretch makes everything feel a little surreal, but also more motivating at the same time.

What’s helped me the most lately isn’t doing more it’s having a routine that makes my days feel manageable instead of chaotic.

One thing that’s made a huge difference is getting everything ready the night before. I’ll lay out my clothes, pack my bag, look at my schedule, and just make sure I know what the plan is he next day. It seriously changes how my mornings feel. I wake up less stressed and way more prepared for the day.

I’ve also been trying to stick to a routine, but not in a super strict way. I like knowing when I’m working, when I need to focus on school, and when I can relax. Having that structure helps my brain calm down instead of constantly feeling like I’m forgetting something. I recently started meal prepping, and I didn’t realize how much mental energy it would save me. Not having to think about what I’m eating during busy days (and eating healthy) has been a game changer. It makes my days run so smooth and helps me feel better overall.

Something else I’ve been intentional about is keeping time for my friends on the weekends. We are all so busy so setting aside a day for each other has really made a difference and gives something to look forward too. Spending time with friends helps me reset and reminds me that life doesn’t stop just because things are busy, and it’s my favorite days.

And probably the biggest thing I’m still learning especially as I prepare for this next chapter is that asking for help isn’t a bad thing. I used to feel like I had to handle everything on my own, but that mindset just leads to stress and feeling overwhelmed. Whether it’s asking a question at work, reaching out to a professor, or leaning on people I trust, support is there for a reason.

Soo..

as I get closer to graduating, I’m realizing that balance isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about finding systems that work for you, giving yourself grace, and remembering you don’t have to do everything alone. This season of my life is so busy, but it’s also so exciting and I’m learning more every step of the way.

Until next time.
